Every holistic health practitioner should know the importance on reading an ear, they can then perform a treatment which will benefit both the person’s structure and internal organs in accordance to what the ear is saying.
The ear is a microsystem, meaning the whole of the body is represented in the ear. It is very similar to reflexology, which most people have heard of, a relaxing often painful in parts treatment given on the feet. It is thought by stimulating certain points of the feet a practitioner can stimulate the corresponding body part.
The map for auricular therapy is an inverted foetus, with the face on the lobe and the spine running up the antihelix. All parts of the systems are found on the ear e.g. digestive, respiratory, urinary tract and can be treated with needles or manually to stimulate or sedate the corresponding body parts.
The map was first introduced to us by Dr Nogier in 1957 who was a neurologist working on pain relief at that time in Lyon. He got into cauterizing the ear, but didnt like the scarring it left behind. There was a bunch of acupuncturists who were working in the same building at the same time and he got increasingly more interested in their approach and the fact that there was no scarring left behind after a treatment. That is when he made the link and put them together. He did extensive research, particularly knees and sciatica, and produced the map that we know today.
There are over 200 points on the ear, each point corresponds to a body part. The outer ear acts like a keyboard to the brain. Each point being stimulated will trigger off an electrical impulses that runs from the ear to the corresponding body part via the brain.
Clinical research demonstrates that auricular therapy:-
- Stimulates the production of
- the body’s natural opiates.
- Regulates blood pressure
- Regulates serotonin
- Regulates the sympathetic nervous system
- Enhances the immune system
- Reduces allergic responses
Every holistic health practitioner should know the importance of reading an ear and how to treat the body according to it. Whether they are acupuncture based or not having an understanding of basic ear anatomy, reading an ear and performing a treatment in line with what the ear is saying will be a huge benefit to the body, both internal organs and the structure. Having an ear massage is one of the most relaxing treatments given and helps the autonomic nervous system relax creating a healing body.
KORE Academy have very kindly asked me to teach this class in March 2022, I am very grateful for this opportunity to share my knowledge with other practitioners and spread the healing love. We all need to put our egos aside and learn from each other to develop and grow, to treat each other better and kinder and what better way that teaching. Knowledge is power and we should never stop learning.
